KITCHEN VOLUNTEER
Are you interested in meal preparation, working as a team and can stand at a counter for 2-3 hours and lift 20lbs? Duties vary from day to day depending on the specific meal being prepared. Duties may include sorting through food donations, washing/cutting/bagging fruit or vegetables, packaging hot food items for service as well as dishwashing. Meal preparation volunteers work from 9 am - 12 noon

Are you interested in food service, working as a team handing out the meal of the day directly to our clients? Service is conducted just outside the main door therefore volunteers must be prepared to work in the weather of the day and lift 20-30 lb containers. Service volunteers must be able to work in a fast-paced environment , be able to communicate directly with the public, therefore have a good working knowledge of the English language as questions are often asked . The service area is covered but will be affected by cold and/or heat. Service volunteers work from 11am - 1pm.

Are you interested in overseeing the service delivery and have good observation and conflict resolution skills. Security volunteers are positioned at the door during service to assist the service volunteers if any issues arise. Security volunteers must present themselves with confidence and have good communication skills.Security volunteers work from 11am - 1pm

Learn about your rights and responsibilities under the Code and the AODA and how they affect you at work, in services and in housing. This 5-part eLearning series (20 minutes) is for public, private and not-for-profit sectors and completes the training requirements for section 7 of the Integrated Accessibility Standards of the AODA.

Approximately 300 dedicated people from various organizations and the public at large give generously of their time and talent to make this program possible.

In addition to preparing and serving meals, our volunteers are responsible for clean-up at the facility, pick-up and deliveries of various food products, maintenance help, fundraising and food drive assistance, and more! We seek individuals who meet the values of our Mission Statement: respectful, hard-working, and compassionate individuals who help to uphold our commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment at The Soup Kitchen.
